Flower Granny

Flower Granny Squares can really dress up an afghan, or add a beautiful accent to a project. I often refer to crochet squares as building blocks for Crocheters.

This Granny Square is made with our very own Signature Logo Flower. However, any crochet flower with 8 loopy petals will work wonderfully.

Materials, Tools & Gauge for the Flower Granny

This section is a little different than others. Making the flower can really be done with any yarn, and your hook will always be the same as you used with the flower. This is a perfect stash buster as it only takes a few yards. Your actual yardage will vary depending on the size of your granny square, and the fiber you use. Other supplies include a scissors and yarn needle. And your gauge is not important, and will vary depending on your yarn.

START WITH OUR SIGNATURE LOGO FLOWER

Our flower has 3 rounds of chain stitch petals. You can make your flower with any yarn, and any color combination.

You will be working into the back (largest) petals.

Making the Flower Granny

Slip Knot the yarn, that you've picked for your granny, on to your hook. Connect it to the flower (flower faces you) using a slip stitch (sl st) ...

and chain (ch) 2.

Double Crochet (dc) 2 around the same loop.

Chain (ch) 3 ...

and in the same loop, double crochet (dc) 3 more.

In the next loop, 3 double crochet (dc).

In the next loop, 3 double crochet (dc), chain (ch)3, 3 double crochet. This completes the first side of your granny square.

Chain (ch) 1, 3 double crochet (dc) in the next loop.

Continue around until you meet your beginning.

When you meet your beginning. Chain (ch) 1 ...

and connect it to the top of your original chain with a slip stitch (sl st).

If you are going to end on this round, cut your yarn and bind off pulling the thread through the last loop on your hook.

If you are going to continue, slip stitch (sl st) into the top of the next stitch, and slip stitch (sl st) into the open space that makes the corner.

Start making the next corner by chaining (ch) 2.

2 double crochet (dc), chain (ch) 3, 3 double crochet (dc), chain (ch) 1.

Sides: 3 double crochet (dc) in each side space, followed by a chain (ch) 1.

Corners: 3 double crochet (dc), chain (ch) 3, 3 double crochet (dc), chain (ch) 1.

You can continue to make as many rounds as you like. I stopped at 2 flower granny rounds. When you finish simply hide your ends. I always use a yarn needle to do this.
