Heart Decal / Applique

A Heart Decal / Applique is not just for Valentine’s Day. Anytime you want to tell someone you love them is the time to add Hearts.

The Heart Decal / Applique can be made with a wide variety of yarn thicknesses (from thread to super chunky), and hook sizes. The pattern stays the same. So just pick the yarn, hook, and color you want to work with.

Add them to just about anything. Simply sew them on following the stitches on the outside edge. Sew them on the cuff and collar of a blouse. Sew them on the outside seam of a pair of pants. Put them on purses, shoes, or hair clips. Glue them onto a card. Get creative, and give a heart to everyone you love.

Crochet Materials, Tools & Gauge for the Heart Decal

Yarn & Hook: These instructions use Herrschners, Sport Weight 3 ply, Red, and an G - 4.0 mm hook.

Standard Worsted Weight Yarn looks good with a H - 5.0 mm hook, and can comfortably go down to an E - 3.5 mm hook. Caron Simply Soft can use a G - 4.0 mm hook, and can comfortably go down to a D - 3.25 mm hook. The hook you decide to use is going to depend on the fiber you choose. The smallest heart pictured (on the top) is using #5 thread, and a No. 0 - 1.75 mm hook.

The amount of yarn you’ll need will also change based on your brand, yarn weight, and hook size - as will your finished gauge (heart decal size). For the thickest yarn you will only need a few yards per heart.

Other: Yarn needle appropriate to the size / weight of your fiber. Scissors. Bobby Pin.

Lesson / Pattern for the Heart Decal.

Ch 5

Sl st connect to the 1st chain.

Note: I place a bobby pin on the chain about center. This helps me easily find the center of the loop for my first stitch. After the first stitch is done you can remove the bobby pin.

The blue marker shows the location to join.

Note: As you work, lay the first loose end down and crochet around it. This hides the first end and you can just snip it when done.

Ch 3 - From here all stitches will be done into and around the loop.
